President Maithripala Sirisena says the New Year commenced from today, will be a year of which will make revolutionary changes in the field of agriculture of this country.
The President made these remarks during a meeting between him and the leaders of the Polonnaruwa farmer organizations held in Polonnaruwa, today (01).
The President pointed out the national programme titled “The dawn of three years in sustainability” which will be inaugurated tomorrow, will make many changes in the agricultural field and requested the assistance of all farmers in this regard.
Several problems faced by the people in the district were brought to the attention of the President and he said that the aim of the Government is to provide solutions for all those issues with the implementation of the future development projects and as a person who is born to a farming family, he will not leave any room for them to face starvation.
The agricultural issues faced by the farmers as a result of the changing of agricultural schedules due to the climate change with global warming discussed in detail at this meeting.
The representative of the Polonnaruwa farmer organizations conveyed their best wishes to the President for the New Year.
