“Law, constitution and judiciary alone cannot build a better society. The best way to build it through Buddhist philosophy”, says President Maithripala Sirisena.
The President was speaking at a ceremony to distribute financial assistance to Buddhist temples with less facilities in rural areas, held today (Jan 2) at the President’s House.
A sum of 107 million rupees granted by Buddhist Renaissance Fund was distributed to the Chief Incumbents of those temples at this ceremony.
“The current government is bound to fulfill every responsibility for the progress of the Sambuddha Shasana”, he said. He recalled the valued leadership given by the Maha Sangha to build the motherland as a good country.
The President stated that a special program has been implemented with contribution of the tri forces to provide basic requirements in the areas in the North and the East, damaged during three decades conflict.
“Instructions have been given to start a special program with the Civil Defense Force to protect the places of historic values”, he said.
The Maha Sangha including Ven. Ittapane Dhammalankara Maha Nayaka Thera, Ven Kotugoda Dhammawasa Maha Nayaka Thera,Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, Minister Wijedasa Rajapakse, Deputy Speaker, Thilanga Sumathipala and many others participated at this event.
