What is OGP

What is OGP ?

The OGP is a multilateral initiative that encourages governments to make commitments to promote transparency, empower citizens, fight corruption, and harness new technologies to strengthen governments, learning from each other’s experiences and in partnership with civil society within the country.

The OGP had been formally launched on September 20, 2011, when the 8 founding governments (Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Norway, the Philippines, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States) endorsed the OGP Declaration and announced their countries’ action plans.

Currently, the OGP consists of 70 member countries and membership is through invitation.

Sri Lanka and OGP

Sri Lanka was invited to join the OGP in October 2015.

In October 2015, on invitation, Sri Lanka participated at the OGP summit in Mexico, and became a participating country of the OGP by endorsing the Declaration. The delegation was led by the then Minister of Justice, Hon. Wijeydasa Rajapakshe.
