President Maithripala Sirisena says during the lifetime of the late Chief Prelate of the Asgiri chapter of the Shyamapli Nikaye, the Most Ven. Galagama Sri Aththadassi Thero had rendered a great service for the Buddha Sasanaya as well as for the entire mankind.

He made these remarks participating in the cremation of the Chief Prelate Most Ven. Galagama Sri Aththadassi Thero held at the Asgiri Police Grounds, yesterday (13). The cremation ceremony was held with full state honours and full state patronage.

The President further said that the demise of the Thero occurred in an era where exemplary Bhikkhus like Most Ven. Galagama Sri Aththadassi Thero much needed for our country. It is also a colossal loss not only to the people of Sri Lanka, but also to the Buddhists the world over, he added.

The Mahanayake Thero always works with the people in a cordial and friendly manner and there are many examples that young Bhikkhus could take from his life.

Theros of the Tri Nikayas, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, Ministers and MPs, Governours, Chief Ministers, People’s representatives and devotees participated in the cremation ceremony.
