Inaugural Session of the Student Parliament of Mahamathya Vidyalaya Athurugiriya held at Presidential Secretariat.

 

The inaugural session of the Student Parliament of Mahamathya Vidyalaya Athurugiriya was held today (30) at the Old Parliament Chamber of the Presidential Secretariat.

 

This special opportunity was extended to the school under the “Vision” programme series, jointly implemented by the Presidential Secretariat, the Ministry of Education and the Parliamentary Department of Communication. During the session, student parliamentarians were briefed on future leadership, the history of Sri Lanka’s parliamentary tradition and the role of Parliament.

 

The programme included the appointment and swearing-in of the Speaker, the swearing-in of student Members of Parliament and the presentation of certificates of participation.

 

In addition, the latest edition of Vision magazine compiled by the Presidential Secretariat to highlight school programmes conducted over the past year was presented to the Deputy Speaker. As part of the event, valuable saplings were also presented to the school, symbolizing the importance of environmental conservation.

 

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Dr. Rizvie Salih, Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, Legal Advisor to the President Senior Advocate J.M. Wijebandara, Director General of Public Relations to the President D. Gamage, Director (Legislative Services) and Acting Director (Communications) of Parliament Jayalath Perera, Assistant Director of the Tri-Forces Coordination Unit of the Presidential Secretariat Major Nadeeka Dangolla, Principal H.A. Gamini Jayaratne, together with teachers, parents and students, participated in the event.
