President joins to celebrate Wimal Weerawansa’s 20 years in parliament

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa were the chief guests at the special occasion held in the Nelum Pokuna Theater, Colombo this evening(February 22) to celebrate National Freedom Front Leader, Minister Wimal Weerawansa’s 20 years in parliament.

The event was named “Wisi Wasaraka Weerawanshaya” and a book written by Isuru Prasanga titled “Wimal-Yugakarakathwaye Boomikawa” comprising incidents revolving around Wimal Weerawansa’s life was presented to the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa reminisced how he and Wimal Weerawansa overcame the challenges of rescuing Sri Lanka from the clenches of terrorism, directing the country towards development and upholding the dignity of the country, during his speech.

Prime Minister further added that Minister Wimal Weerawansa was an imperative force in the mass campaign to elect Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the president of the country.

Minister Wimal Weerawansa extended his gratitude to everyone present and stated that it was a victory to elect Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the president of Sri Lanka at a moment of crisis where the country almost lost its statehood.

Senior Lecturer of the Department of Cultural Studies, University of Kelaniya Prof. Ven. Induragare Dhammaratana Thero and Senior Professor Raj Somadeva of the Postgraduate Institute of Archeology delivered the keynote speeches.

A number of ministers, intellectuals and artists were present to witness the occasion.
