President Attends Annual Esala Perahera Festival at the Historic Mahiyanganaya Raja Maha Vihara

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake visited the historic Mahiyanganaya Raja Maha Vihara yesterday (06), to attend the 2025 Esala Perahera Festival of the temple and the Sri Sumana Saman Maha Devalaya, where he engaged in religious observances and received blessings.

 

Subsequently, the President met with the Chief Incumbent of the Mahiyanganaya Raja Maha Vihara, Most Venerable Urulewatte Dhammarakkhita Thero, Senior Executive Sangha Member of the Asgiriya Chapter, and inquired after his well-being during a brief conversation.

 

On this occasion, the Chief Incumbent bestowed blessings upon the President and also presented him with a special commemorative gift.

 

Thereafter, marking the commencement of the fourth Randoli Perahera of the 2025 Esala Perahera Festival of the historic Mahiyanganaya Raja Maha Vihara and the Sri Sumana Saman Maha Devalaya, the President placed the Sacred Casket upon the majestic ceremonial tusker and later joined the local residents in witnessing the procession.

 

Vedda Chief, Uruwarige Wannila Aththo, Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure Samantha Vidyaratna; Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ruwan Ranasinghe; Governor of the Uva Province, Attorney-at-Law Kapila Jayasekara; and Members of Parliament Sudath Balagalla and Ambika Samuel, along with several other dignitaries, were also present on this occasion.
