Student Parliament of Piliyandala Central College Holds Inaugural Sitting at the Presidential Secretariat

The inaugural sitting of the Student Parliament of Piliyandala Central College was held today (04) in the Old Parliament Chamber at the Presidential Secretariat.

 

The programme, implemented jointly by the Presidential Secretariat, the Ministry of Education and the Parliament Department of Communication, is designed for school students.

 

Alongside this programme, members of the Student Parliament of Piliyandala Central College were given the opportunity to gain an understanding of the history of parliamentary traditions, the role and functions of Parliament, as well as the conceptual value and practical importance of the Clean Sri Lanka project.

 

A special feature of the occasion was the appointment of a minister from the Student Parliament to take charge of the Clean Sri Lanka project. Certificates were also presented to members of the student cabinet and other parliamentarians.

 

Among those present were Mr Roshan Gamage, Senior Additional Secretary to the President; Attorney-at-Law Kushani Rohanadheera, Secretary-General of Parliament; Mr Dharmasiri Gamage, Director-General of Public Relations to the President; and Mr Jayalath Perera, Director of Legislative Services and Communication of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, together with the Principal and several members of the academic staff of Piliyandala Central College.
