The demise of the Most Ven. Agga Maha Panditha Kotugoda Dhammawasa Thero, the Maha Nayaka of the-Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya is of immense sorrow to all the Buddhists including myself. It is with utmost respect I recall my close association with the Nayaka Thero and the life experience I earned through it, at this mournful occasion.
Ven. Kotugoda Dhammawasa Maha Nayaka Thero was known to not only the local Buddhist devotees, but to the entire Buddhist world as well’ Nayake Thero’s style of preaching Lord Buddha’s teachings was able to captivate both young and adults atit<e. The Most Venerable Thero was well versed in the bhikkhu mien and conduct laid down by the Buddha’ As a result’ the erudite nayake Thero was honoured both by the Mahasangha of Sri Lanka and the rest of the world.
Ven. Kotugoda Dhammawasa Thero was sophisticated in the role of a Supatipanna Bhikkhu. He never neglected his national responsibilities in the social and political spheres.
The Most Ven. Kotugoda Dhammawasa Nayaka Thero, who was a beacon of light as the supreme leader of the Amarapura Maha Nikaya, was a model to the entire world as a wise and compassionate human being, I believe the demise of our Nayaka Thero, who was dedicated to healing the country and society, was an unbearable loss not only to me but also to the entire
Buddhist community.
May the Most Ven. Kotugoda Dhammawasa Nayaka Thero of the Amarapura Nikaya attain supreme bliss of Nibbana.
