Presidential Secretariat of Sri Lanka

Development is key in ending people’s suffering…

 A clear policy and a process is now in place.
 Government has to spend more time to clear the mess created by previous regime.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa stated that the only way to redeem people’s suffering is through appropriate development in the country.

“To achieve this, required policy framework and the procedure have been laid down by the government. As the President, I travel village by village to identify the real issues that ails the public and resolve them. A group with no policy or a vision is criticizing that as well.” President added.

President stressed that despite these obstacles and criticism he would not abandon his quest to serve his people and added that he would not allow misleading falsehoods to be spread among the people.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa made these remarks during the discussion with the representatives of the associations affiliated to the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna at Nugegoda Wetland Park (Weli Park) yesterday(24).

Current government within a short time of 16 months into power has ushered in a revolutionizing change in its national policies. President noting that this exactly the change people requested from him added that the government is dedicated to consolidated sovereignty, protect our native culture, national interests, and ourway of life while ensuring the national security at the same time.

Incumbent government mostly has to face and rectify the old issues left by the forme r government not the issues created in this period. The 19th amendment is one of those issues. The 20th amendment had to come and address this issue. The consequences of neglecting national security were the Easter Sunday attacks. Now it’s the current government that has to answer regarding the Commission they themselves had appointed to look into this matter. Both agreementsrelating to MCC Compact and Leasing East Container Terminal were started during the previous administration. This government had to face the crisis that arose in this regard as well.

The President said that those who were part of then government are protesting against the government, raising issues that they themselves had created. President further added that the government had to spend more time in finding solutions to the problems they created while implementing policies and strategies of the government at the same time.

The government does not allow anyone to cut down trees or destroy the environment. The Opposition has been spreading falsehoods over an alleged massive deforestation taking place in the country. The President stated that he instructed the District Secretaries yesterday(24) to take immediate action in the event of deforestation at the district level.
