The President presided over the 106th anniversary of the Girl Guides Association

The 106th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association, Sri Lanka’s largest voluntary organization for girls and young women, was held yesterday afternoon (21) at the President’s Office, under the patronage of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Miss Jenny Calverley, a young British teacher who brought the Girl Guides Association to Sri Lanka, founded the first Girl Guides Group at Girls High School in Kandy in 1917.

Today commemorates the 106th anniversary of the founding of the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association. In honour of this occasion, a flag day was organized, and during the event, Dr. Shanti Wilson, the President of the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association, Rukshani Aziz, the Communications Commissioner, and Wasantha Sarojani Hemasinghe, a leader of the Girl Guides division for differently-abled children, presented the flag to the President.

This event was attended by a group of girl guides from the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association.
